Welcome to Huish Episcopi

At Huish Episcopi we strive to enable all our students to develop their potential to the full. We have high expectations of them and work hard to provide the support and opportunities they need in order to grow into confident and mature young people. Our academy is a safe and caring environment in which students are helped to develop individual responsibility and consideration for others, as they prepare for the opportunities and challenges of adult life.

Our record of success is impressive. We have maintained high levels of academic success for many years. Classed as ‘Outstanding’ by Ofsted and recognised as a ‘High Performing School’ by the Department for Education we were awarded three ‘Specialisms’ in Science, Languages and Applied Learning. Amongst many other accolades we hold the full ‘International School Award’.  We are also one of the very few schools nationally that have been allowed to change from being an 11-16 school by developing our own Sixth Form. Huish Sixth opened in September 2010 in brand new £4.6m facilities.  Also in September 2010 we were one of the first 32 ‘Outstanding’ schools nationally to convert to Academy Status. This gives us more control over our own affairs and destiny.

Our aim now is to raise standards still further, ensuring that we consistently provide all our students with the best possible platform for their future. We will measure ourselves against the best, not only in the South West but in England and beyond. Our aim is to be a truly exceptional academy.

Autumn Term Update

It seems far too soon for the Autumn Term to be drawing to a close. Surely it cannot be thirteen weeks since the school year began. The pace of life at Huish is fast and has so many different facets.   Our Year 7 students have now firmly 'settled in' and all year groups have been working hard at their studies. For Years 11, 12 and 13 the ever shortening gap to GCSE, AS and A Level examinations is a growing reality and a period of intensive revision lies ahead.   We embrace an approach to education which does not stop in the classroom but involves opportunities to take part in sport, music, study visits and a wide range of other activities. These have been taking place in abundance this term and will continue to do so right up to the last day.

For staff, there is also the lesson preparation, review and development of new courses, marking, liaison with parents and much more.   A recent professional development session introduced staff to 'Huish-i' - our new 'virtual learning environment' which is currently under development and which will become an important tool for learning in the academy and for communication with parents.

Another group of people who have been working very hard this term for the success of our academy is our Governors. Their role often goes unnoticed, but it is vital.   Since becoming an academy there have been many changes in the responsibilities of the Governing Body or ‘Academy Board’ as it is also known. We have welcomed two new Parent Governors this term, Mrs Glide and Mr Watson. We are also seeking to strengthen the Board with people who have expertise in the 'law' and or 'finance'. If you have such experience and are interested in joining us please contact our clerk, Mrs Harwood.

So when one considers all that has been achieved this term, the question is not "Where has the time gone?", it is rather "How did we fit all of that in?" A sign of a thriving institution.
