Welcome
At Huish Episcopi Academy we strive to enable our students to develop their potential to the full and to grow into mature and confident young people who are prepared for the challenges, opportunities and responsibilities of adult life. The academy has strong traditions of care for the individual and high academic standards. In 2012 86% of Year 11 achieved 5 or more A*-C grades at GCSE, with 65% gaining 5 or more including English and Maths. In the Sixth Form the A level pass rate was 99% with many students gaining excellent grades and a number going off to top universities, including Oxford.
We support our students in the development of self–discipline, resilience, and care and respect for others. We recognise the need for a strong partnership between home and school if students are to gain the most from their educational opportunities. Our aim is to be a world class school.

Spring Term 2013
The Spring Term has been short but ‘action packed’. It started with some important GCSE and GCE examinations in January for Years 11 and 12 and continued with a wide range of curricular and extra-curricular activities, involving large numbers of students.
Probably the largest and most high profile event was the production of the musical ‘We will Rock You’. This was a collaboration between our Music and Drama Departments and involved more than 70 students directly and many more indirectly. It was a huge success selling out for each of the 5 performances and receiving rave reviews from students, staff, parents, critics, indeed from all who attended. All commented upon the very high standards reached in all aspects of the production; acting, singing, music, costumes, scenery and direction. One parent commented that they had “… paid a lot of money for tickets for shows in the West End that did not reach these standards.”
In addition to the production we have had fieldwork trips for Sixth Formers in Biology and Geography. The Sixth Form Public Services course has undertaken outdoor education trips including one caving expedition. Year 10 Geographers have had a residential course at Slapton in Devon. There have been trips to the theatre (War Horse in London) and to the concert hall (Colston Hall Bristol). Some of our Lead Learners in Year 10 have visited Oxford University whist some students in Years 12 and 11 have attended a day outlining Oxbridge entry procedures. Sports trips included the Super Sixes hockey tournament at Wembley and to see the Exeter Chiefs rugby team in action. There have also been Parents Evenings for those who have children in Years 7, 9 and 11 and an additional ‘Options Evening’ for Year 9 parents
One of the most important things to happen during the Spring Term has been the appointment of a new Principal, as I will be retiring at the end of August. After a long and very thorough process our Directors (Governors) have appointed Mr Andrew Davis to the post. Mr Davis is presently the Principal at Dawlish Community College in Devon. He will take up his post here on 1 September. I believe the Directors to have made an excellent choice and I look forward to working with Mr Davis when he visits us on a number of occasions during the Summer Term.
