I was delighted to receive an email during the Easter holidays stating that despite strong competition, Samantha Hobbs (YR 13) had been awarded the distinction of Active Campaigner on behalf of the Diana Award.
The Diana Award is bestowed upon courageous, caring, compassionate young people, transforming the lives of others in Diana, Princess of Wales' memory.
I nominated Samantha because of the courage she showed during a particularly difficult incident in which she had to resuscitate her mother after a collapse at home. Thanks to Sam's efforts her mother lived. It is because of this trauma and the seeing what could be achieved by having knowledge of basic CPR that she was determined to make basic First Aid available to her fellow students. Sam herself has run First Aid sessions and as one students stated "I feel much more confident that I would know what to do now if the same thing happened to me, it makes sense and for such an important skill it is surprisingly easy to learn".
The Award is open to young people from across the world and UK Award holders will be celebrated regionally in a glittering award ceremony, as part of the UK INSPIRE Series.
