For the first time Huish Episcopi Academy hosted the Tour of Wessex. One of the largest multistage cyclosportive events in the world and most established in the UK, this event offers riders the option to cycle a single stage race of 80 or 120 miles on any of the 3 days or the ultimate 3 day, 330 mile race. Each day sees 600-800 cyclists setting off in their groups of 50 to face the beautiful scenery of Somerset, Wiltshire, Dorset and Exmoor. A lot of tough climbs and busy roads lay ahead for the riders but the light at the end of the tunnel was their camp site, just 200 meters away from the finish line. This year, again for the first time, the 3 day riders pitched their tents and campervans at Eli's. What better combination....cycle 120 miles then head to Eli's! Although there was a few tired faces on day 2 and even more so on day 3, all riders thoroughly enjoyed the close proximity from finish line to camp site to bar.
For the Huish Leisure staff it was a great weekend enjoyed by all. Even though James' burnt nose could be seen from the international space station, we are looking forward to hosting the event next year and are now starting to steer our heads towards our own triathlon events in September.
