Huish Sixth has numerous clubs and societies running through break, lunch and after hours. We firmly believe that it is vital that we offer more than just an academic curriculum in order that our students develop into well-rounded individuals ready for the demand of modern life. Sports Leader Award - This course runs throughout the year and will provide you with a range of coaching qualifications as well as involvement in leading and organising events. The award is well regarded by both universities and employers and can contribute to your Duke of Edinburgh and Universities award. You will be asked to buy a log book at the beginning of the course.
Recreational Sport - Students are involved in a number of teams, outdoor sport as an option runs on a Wednesday afternoon and there are supporting training sessions for sports teams. We run Trampolining and Self Awareness and Defence classes, as well as Swimming and Triathlon training programmes.
Huish Sixth Magazine and Blog - A magazine for students created by students. Get involved in planning, reporting, editing, and producing for the newest magazine around.
Arts Award (Silver) - This course runs for 10 weeks and allows you to learn and develop a wide variety of arts based skills – these include photography, dance, film making, art and design, textiles, sculpture ....the list goes on. This course allows you to learn new skills from scratch or develop those that you have, to create portfolios for Foundation degrees. We will ask you to contribute to the cost of materials depending on what you use!
Sport and Exercise - As a student in the Sixth Form you will enjoy access to Huish Leisure throughout the day. Join in with the classes, book courts, workout in the cardio room, enrol on courses and enjoy all the facilities of our own Leisure Centre free throughout the day.
Duke of Edinburgh - Silver and Gold award. You will receive full training and support for these awards and we are planning your expeditions already.
Universities Award - You will have the opportunity to complete a programme of 'challenges' which contribute to the Universities Award. This also contributes to Duke of Edinburgh.
Dance - Get involved in developing dance routines and work towards a performing arts event in the spring term.
Peer Mentoring - Can you support our younger students in their learning? You can get involved in both class and in one to one schemes. This offers the chance to have a role with real responsibility, offering help and support to other students in school.
Film Club - Enjoy film classics in our auditorium as part of the Huish Sixth Film Club.
Media Club - Want to create your own movies? Here's your chance. Learn how to use specialist software and equipment to create short movies.
Dead Poets' Society- Meet with like-minded romantics, existentialists, modernists and much, much more to recite and discuss poets a-plenty.
Debating Society- Sharpen your debating skills and prepare to do battle with your peers on a whole range of topical issues.
Camox Club Lectures- Broaden your horizons and open your mind to new and original tghin king at one of our lectures.
HE+ Programme- Meet to work on certain projects in order to prepare for meetings and debates with other Somerset schools involved in the project. Ideal for Oxbridge hopefuls.
These are just some of the enrichment opportunities that are available. We are planning to develop even more - Public speaking and debating, Amnesty International, RAG week, the list goes on.....
