  • OXO - GUINNESS WORLD RECORD ATTEMPT On Wednesday, Year 13 students (Ella, Lily, Rebecca, Leah, Lucy, Max and Jack) from the SPAM Society at Huish Sixth attempted to create a new Guinness World Record by forming the longest continuous line of stock cubes. They used 3385 stock cubes in total, using chicken, beef, vegetable, salt and meat free flavours. The challenge took 1 hour 13 minutes, with the final cube being laid down by all of the students to the song. 'The Final Countdown' by Europe! Contributors of stock cubes were: Oxo, Tesco Langport/Yeovil, Butterfly & Candy in Langport and Waitrose in Crewkerne. Thank you to you all! All in-date cubes will be redistributed to local food banks. The total line length was: 67.70 metres and filmed evidence will be sent off to the Guinness Records organisation for verification. The group were also interviewed live on Matt Chorley's ' The Times' radio show in the afternoon, explaining the challenge and what the SPAM society is all about. The students formed the SPAM (Science Problem Solving and Maths) Society last year as a way of setting themselves challenges, researching and presenting on topics of interest, and generally promoting wider and deeper thinking in their chosen subjects. Being members of the Society has really helped with their studies and all students intend to start university in September with destinations including Oxford, Bristol and Exeter. Mr Woodward, Head of Huish Sixth said, "It was an absolute joy to witness these students having such a lot of fun whilst carrying out such an original challenge. They epitomise what Huish Sixth is all about. I am sure they will be hugely successful in their chosen careers going forward.
