Huish Episcopi Sixth Form aims to offer a wide range of Level 3 qualifications.  Students are expected to take the equivalent of three subjects (i.e. A Levels, BTECS or Cambridge Technicals).  Higher performing students may choose to take four subjects.

Entry requirements

The expectation is that students wishing to join us at Huish Episcopi Sixth Form will have a minimum of 5 GCSEs at Grade 4 or above (or equivalent) to include English (Language or Literature) and Mathematics.  Individual subjects also have their own minimum entry requirements which are aimed at ensuring students only take a subject in which they are going to succeed.

Subject choices should only be made after careful thought. You should consider your areas of interest and future plans.

Informed Choice

The Russell Group is an umbrella organisation that represents 20 of the UK’s leading universities. It recently published ‘Informed Choices’, its first ever guide to Post-16 subject choices.  Provided in collaboration with the Institute of Career Guidance, it is aimed at students considering A level and equivalent options. It includes advice on the best subject combinations for a wide range of university courses as well as advice on the best choices if you don’t know what you want to study after school and need to keep your options open.

The document contains a wealth of information about post-16 subjects, and the best combinations for accessing a range of undergraduate courses. ‘Informed Choices’ is explicit about one thing; students wishing to gain entry to Russell Group Universities should study at least two facilitating subjects at A level. These subjects are:

. Mathematics and Further Mathematics

. English Literature

. Physics

. Biology

. Chemistry

. Geography

. History

. Languages (Classical and Modern)
