Overview
Students learn how to read human behaviour, understand the physical mechanics of illnesses like cancer and dementia and explore real, pressing global issues. This qualification develops knowledge of both human health and development and the health and social care sector. It will be of particular interest if considering a career in this important field. From completion of this award, there is a range of progression pathways to choose from. These include moving on to employment, apprenticeship or further study at university in fields such as social care management, nursing, midwifery, social work and other health and social care related areas.
Course Content
AAQ Health and Social Care has the following topics:

Human Lifespan and Development: looking at life stages and factors that could influence development.

Human Health and Biology: the organisation of the human body and disorders that may affect it.

Principles of Health and Social Care Practice: how organisation, legislation and guidance inform practice.

Promoting Health Education: how health education can support the development of health behaviours in society.
Entry Requirements
5 GCSEs at Grade 4 or above, including Mathematics and English Language.
How is it Assessed?
Examinations: 2 papers (50%)
Coursework: 2 units (50%)
Future Pathways with Health and Social Care
An AAQ in Health and Social Care is incredibly versatile. It serves as a launchpad into three primary destinations: Higher Education, Degree Apprenticeships, and Direct Employment.
Nursing and Midwifery: Adult nursing, paediatric nursing, mental health nursing, and midwifery.
Allied Health Professions: Occupational therapy, physiotherapy, paramedic science, speech and language therapy, and radiography.
Social and Psychological Sciences: Social work, psychology, childhood studies, and youth work.
Criminology and Sociology: Police or probation officer, prison officer and crime analyst.
