The word Sociology literally means the study of society. People reflect and evaluate the conditions in which they live, be it through painting, literature, philosophy or religion. Sociology gives us the opportunity to delve into the maze that is human society, question assumptions and begin to understand the world that surrounds us. It involves studying human beings and their patterns of behaviour. Sociology therefore relates to all students and provides a springboard for thoughts about group behaviours and individual behaviour.

Our vision is that the study of Sociology will help our students to become more aware of the way society operates and gives students the freedom to evaluate and question the social structures within it. You are encouraged to develop your own sociological awareness through an active engagement with the contemporary social world.
